New Website Targets Identity Theft

September 8, 2011. According to the Federal Trade Commission, as many as nine million Americans have their identity stolen each year. If you're a victim, it could cost hundreds of dollars and take a long time to repair any damage to your credit record.
The Consumer Federation of America launched a new Web site, www.IDTheftInfo.org, you can use to help recover from I.D. theft and prevent it from happening in the first place.
You can find resources including consumer hotlines and free credit counseling for victims. There are also links for businesses on how to protect the privacy of their customers and employees.
